For "The Seagull" by Chekhov
A few close people, devoted to art and lovers of it, are collected on the property (the famous Chekhov scene in his plays) to the eldest of them at a usual family meeting, but it becomes an occasion for facing one's own life and re-examining mutual relations. In that "check" of their lives, clashing with each other and each with himself, in search of his own identity, try to make sense of and confirm the meaning of what they do and what they expect from themselves and others. A play about the collision of dreams and reality, about the longing for the harmony of life, for the lives lost, who try to find the meaning of living through creativity, about the pain of creation, for the pursuit of an inspiring ideal, but it can also distort the reality of living… this is a play for love ("Many conversations about literature, some action, five pounds of love", so Chekhov joked in giving a feature for the play), about unrequited feelings, about the mutual misunderstanding, for the bitter disappointment of oneself and others, for the attempt to find an echo in the other soul and to weigh the weight of one's own life with dignity.
Olivera Pavlovic, playwright
"This lake attracts me, How Galeb "
"As if I woke up and saw that the lake suddenly dried up"
In this play we explore the role of the lake and the environment in correlation with the lives of people. The seagull shows an environmental environment in which the lake, human relationships, Love, life and wildlife are interconnected and fragile.
A young man lives by the lake, in the provinces, isolated. He dreams of being an artist. The young woman in which she is in love dreams of being an actress. His mother is a famous actress. Her lover is a famous writer. This beautiful, Gentle play leads us in the world of art, Love, the dream of glory and the painful reality of life.
Chekhov called the play comedy, but the last moment is tragic, With the loss of the young Costa. The play is imposing the questions: How can this loss be avoided? Can we better care for people and nature?
With the actors from the Bitola Theater we carry the seagull here and now, with the lake as a central character, subtly influencing the relationships that take place around him. Chekhov's magic play is a love letter to life, carrying our consciousness to fragility and the need for care.
