Voice and Bass is an outstanding Hungarian jazz duo consisting of vocalist Ágnes Lakatos and double bassist Tibor Csuhaj Barna. What makes this ensemble unique—even globally—is the fact that they create rich and dynamic music using only two lead lines.: the human voice at one end of the musical spectrum and the double bass at the other.
This minimalist format challenges musicians to fill the space that normally belongs to a full band, through exceptional interaction, technique and musical sensitivity.
Ágnes Lakatos is one of the most respected jazz singers and teachers in Hungary. She studied jazz singing at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, where he later became a professor and active mentor of new generations of musicians. She is the winner of several awards and regularly performs on the international stage.
Tibor Csuhaj-Barna is an experienced double bassist, composer and professor, also active at the Franz Liszt Academy. He has participated in more than 30 albums and manages various music projects. His deep understanding of rhythm, harmony and form creates a solid foundation for free and creative communication in the duo.
They have released several albums together, between Voice and Bass (2008) и Into the Groove (2013), which contain mostly original compositions, as well as innovative interpretations.
Their recordings and performances show how full and expressive music can be even with minimal instrumentation.
Live, the duo performs at jazz festivals and clubs across Europe and beyond. Among other things, they performed at Magyar Zene Háza in Budapest, where they collaborated with guest musicians such as saxophonist Borbély Mihály, expanding the sound palette, but retaining the essence of their signature voice-and-double-bass format.
Their work represents a blend of high technical mastery, creative interaction and constant exploration of the possibilities of the jazz duo — a rare and fascinating approach that stands out on the international jazz scene.

OSTstyrian Rhythm Section is in constant motion. Rooted in the swing tradition, the trio expands the linguistic expression of jazz without setting boundaries — embracing modern colors, romantic undertones and subtle pop influences.
The term Rhythm Section can carry a certain amount of "friction"—or even playful linguistic provocation—for dedicated speakers of the Styrian dialect.. That's why the steered version "Sektschn" sounds particularly appropriate. It is a tribute to the three musicians' Eastern Styrian origins and is best pronounced with a deliberately mobile lower jaw..
Just as their name rolls picturesquely over the hills, graduate musicians from the jazz department of the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts navigate the mountain streams of jazz with ease: upcoming author compositions, infectious Latin grooves and cascades of improvisations.
Everything flows. Or, as you would say in good Styrian: „Panther Rhei.“
